Andy O'Hare Reviews - 25/01/08 - Meteor Street, Cobweb Dilemmas, Toxic Pijin, DLK

Still a bit quiet on the local gig scene so we thought we'd catch the evening bit of the billed all-dayer at TJ's in Worcester last weekend.

Turned out that Meg and Dudes Of Neptune couldn't make their afternoon slots and we were right on time for the main slot - that's got to be an O'Hare first!

Kicking off were local electro-chaotics Meteor Street - fresh back from playing in London. Plenty of tuneful interludes though from this bunch of multi-instrumentalists who mash the styles from folk-rock to metal - and there's that feelgood something with numbers like 'Schipol Paranoia'

and 'Servitors And Circuits' that tells me this is an outfit to keep a close eye on

Tremendously impressed with next-up Cobweb Dilemmas blend of Television, Sonic Youth and Magazineish riffs. I don't want to go over the top on this threesome but female guitar heroes have been a bit thin on the ground since Charlotte Hatherley left Ash - might just be that the Cobweb's Em could fill this niche with her mean fx work - oh and the lads aren't too bad either!

Haven't seen Toxic Pijin for a couple of years now - hardly surprising as they've slimmed down to a White Stripes/Girls On Film 2-piece and spend most of the year on the Continental shelf. Songs then were about supermarkets, cheese and projectile vomiting but glad to report that they've still got that infectious punk singalong feel with a touch of death metal thrown in for added QOTSA effect. These two are also the tightest outfit I've seen for years - move over Jack and Meg and make way!

I'd describe the Marrs Bar audience as 'small but enthusiastic' for the wonderful Dandelion Killers return to Worcester - frontman Adam said it was 'intimate' so I'll leave you it to you to guess. The usual stunning set from the pitch-perfect Ross threesome with catchy newbies like 'Golden Age' and 'Fire When Ready' thrown in - catch them again in Worcester at the end of February maybe - if you're lucky that is
