Andy O'Hare Reviews - 21/03/08 - Two Minute Warning, Cape Of Good Hope Silver Tequila, Zebedy Rays

Well I would obviously have preferred the Welsh Rugby Union to reschedule last week's Grand Slam decider so as not to conflict with the excellent 'Easter Rising' all-dayer at the Marrs Bar in Worcester - organized by the Little Hellfire club elves. So I'll have to catch Cobweb Dilemmas, The Donns and Girls On Film another time - reports were though that GoF had played an awesome set - blast!!

The place was going bonkers as I rolled in - not surprising as Zebedy Rays had just hit the stage. The best live act in the two counties had warmed up the crowd with their bin-banging intro before launching into their manic jazz-rocking set - bonus appearance by AWWBLOT Pete also!

Two Minute Warning are a Silver Tequila spinoff - now unfortunately based in Nottingham - shame for us that is as this all-vocal three-piece are a powerful blend of goth and punk - with the sparkliest bass I've seen for a while!

No such gimmicks for the grim professionalism that is Cape Of Good Hope

- mind you this was probably the most populist set I've ever seen from the highbrow Worcester jazz-rocking syncopaters - still the best technical outfit around - you're not selling out are you lads?

Great to see Chris of Not Just Sauce, Lucy and the rest of AWWBLOT in the crowd - also Dave of Expedestrian who were due to headline but were double booked for the night. Late and great replacements were local thundering popsters Silver Tequila who closed a great day off in great style - I can't wait now for the Hellfire summer village fetes - bring 'em on!!

I reckon half of Hereford must have turned up last night for the launch of Brandon Steep's 'Quintessential' EP at the Barrels. Warmer-uppers were the melodic folky warblers that are Gossamer Albatross - now this outfit are just anything but rock'n'roll but have blended seamlessly into the great Hereford club and pub scene - and that's where I think they shine. I've got a soft spot for this sort of stuff - and variety's good for the soul folks!!

Great to meet up with Hayley of Four Ways Forward - looking forward to catch them again soon - also Flat Pack Hero Jamie (deep into his final year dissertation - best of luck mate) and Alex of Pencil Toes in the crowd.

Out-of-towners on the night were funky popsters Let's Tea Party from Bristol and I liked their Latin-American samba whistles with Firestarter overtones - reminded me a bit of just-over-the-borders outfit Estevez.

Just time to catch the beginning of the Steep's set before I had to high-tail it from High Town to catch the last train back. If you were there - and there sure were plenty packed in on the night - then why don't you let us know how it went? Ahh go on then.....
