Now That's What I Call Sauce Double CD (single albums available) Various Artists
review by Catherine Phillips (News and Entertainment Reporter )
Worcester and music have gone hand-in-hand for a very long time. The city's history is steeped in musical high points such as its links with Edward Elgar, Three Choirs Festival, which dates back to the 18th century, and now Worcester Music Festival. The inaugural festival took place at the end of August and this is the album to celebrate its success.
What does it sound like? It is a month on the Worcester gig circuit condensed into two handy CDs, one loud and one acoustic. Well put together and spanning a wide genre of music it demonstrates all that is presently good about live music in Worcester. Acts appearing on the loud album include Will Dance For Chocolate, Neil Ivison and The Misers with The George Cowley Experience while the acoustic album boasts Bruno Gallone, Angelcynn and Jamie Knight. It is hard to pick out a favourite track or particular highlights as the album is so diverse.
However, If there are any parents wanting to bridge the gap with their moody teenager this might be the perfect anecdote - drop into conversation the names a few of the bands on this compilation and hey presto, instant cool. For others that recognise a few bands on the two albums, you could discover your new favourite band from your home town. And for those who went to one or more of the many gigs during Worcester Music Festival - this is a fantastic reminder of three wonderful days when the city's scene burst to life.
Now That's What I call Sauce is available from independent record stores in Worcester or from the website www.worcestermusicfestival.co.uk.
