October 2008

They say that good things come to those who wait. Well, it seems that Worcester has been waiting for something to happen to its music scene for quite a few years and now it seems, maybe partly due to the recent city wide music festival, that something is happening and its something good.

It seems that there is more and more live music happening in Worcester.

There seems to be more of a work together attitude in the air, promoters working together, bands and venues collaborating to provide more live music. It has been a long time since you see some quality live music every day of the week, and most days you can get a choice.

Backstage Promotions are taking over keystones every Saturday night with a host of amazing covers bands and resident DJs The Mixer Crew. .

Two of the cities music promoters have joined forces to kick up a storm on the scene. Siani of Driver Promotions and Haydn of The Blue radio Project have come together in the guise of Blue Drive Promotions. The new joint venture will be hosting regular events at various venues including The Gun Tavern, The Firefly, The Marrs Bar and also taking on the Sunday afternoon/early evening slot at Keystones with a great new laid back acoustic event with many of the areas singer songwriters taking part each week. Its a bit like James Perrys legendary 1147am club at the cellar bar, but more of a Sunday feel, complete with Sunday papers and coffee.

Speaking of the Cellar Bar, The Little Hellfire Club has moved its regular club night to this cool underground Foregate Street venue on the first Friday of the month, live DJs, exclusive play back of new albums and demos and plenty more. Well worth a look. Bob Jones is also doing his regular blues night once a month.

The Old Rectifying House, in association with Not Just Sauce, will be putting on some quality original music on the first Wednesday of the month, starting on November 5th with the awesome Cantaloop plus some really great support acts.

Keystones and Drummonds are not the only venues upping their live music quota. Bossa Nova now have a monthly Sunday and Wednesday night live music event hosted by the hard working and dedicated Fat Rat Productions team, bringing some great live rock and acoustic acts to the city centre.

Live music in Worcester has never been so vibrant. And it looks as though it getting better every week.
