I look at my computer screen searching for ideas for this music blog but I am having trouble. I try and think of something to write about but all I can think of is what I have to do in the next few weeks and what has already been done.. The last few weeks were busy, what with the Acoustic Lunches that are going extremley well at The Old Rec, but I know we have many more or those to plan, posters to design, websites to update etc.
My head is still spinning from the quality of the artsist that have played there and also at The Sally Anne Grainger fundraiser at the Marrs Bar and that despite having no idea what was going on, comedian/compere Joe taylor did an amazing job in making the night a huge success. Stuntdog, Mudball and Host all played their hearts out and I thank them, and everyone who turned up, and the marrs bar for letting us hijack the venue for a night, with all my heart. Thank you.
My head is also filled with the thought of the 30 or more venues that are taking part in the Worcester Music Festival this year and that we have to somehow arrange for them to have some sort of live music in them while keeping each show unique, entertaining and mostly free. The vision of my email inbox burstng with requests from artists wishing to play the festival fills me will dread and pleasure in equal measure, and the fact that, despite our best efforts, we do not have room for 600 live bands and 300 solo artists in the city in one weekend. Worcester ain't that big. And we ain't got that much money.
Every once in a while I get an idea for a subject for this blog, but it it is pushed out of my head by some catchy as hell track by some local artist that I have just discovered like the Dissolutes or Diamond Empire. or I get directed to a myspace page of a band and their music just takes my already wonder lusted mind to another place. I begin tapping in to-do lists on my phone, but find myself logging onto facebook or twitter and spending the next hour replying to messages, creating event pages or just seeing what is going on that night .. and there is normally a lot going on. Do I go down to the Cellar Bar and see some live band at Flavor Of Week, or down the Marrs Bar for a bit of jamming open mic. Perhaps I should book some more bands for the fest or chase up some promoters and see what they are planning. Or do I stick a CD on and just chill on the sofa. The sofa seems like a good idea but I know that if I try and relax I will never get this blog done. .. this blog .. do I stay in a try to think of what to write or hey, isn't that a Sam Issac tune on the TV, whats he doing on the Inbetweeners. I guess I could listen to The Friday Session on BBC Hereford & Worcester through iPlayer but that would mean going online and finding a thousand more emails to respond to. .. or to delete instantly.
Maybe I need food, I fancy some chips, but the chip shop is in Lowesmoor and I might accidently find myself in the Firelfy watching some great bands that I have never heard of only to discover that they are on my list of bands wanting to play the fest and so I have to stay and chat and have a beer.
I am also thinking about a new project I am involved at Keystones called The Bunker. A weekly mid week alternative unsigned original band night It starts in june but I really have to get some bands lined up for that. I also have to finalise the linups for the next couple of Acoustic Lunches. Really looking forward to seeing Stuntdog play acousticlly, plus Matt Woosey, Paul Jeffery, Bob Jones, Ragtime Ewan, Dead Pig Project, Superkaine, Jayne Gaze and Rich Clarke. I try and remember who I have booked in the past and who I have got coming up, and it just merges into one wonderfully eclectic year long acoustic feeding fest.
My brain is mush, my mind is in a million different myspaces, I have to make 90,000 litres of Worcestershire sauce tommorow, my stomach is crying out for Scampi Fries, and worst of all, I still can't think anything to write about.
